Field Grade School

SCHOOLWIDE RTI (PANTHER PLUS) INFORMATION

RTI is a General (Regular) Education Program provided in Math and Reading to ALL students (K-8) at Field Grade School. Behavior RTI is offered to students, as needed.

Since students learn in different ways, Field School believes in providing support to all students to help them reach their highest potential. In this General Education Program, all students receive different materials and strategies to support students’ learning styles. That means that every teacher in our building will use a variety of strategies in the classroom to help each student succeed. It is important to know that RTI is not a special education program and that every child in the building receives a level of RTI.

Using a 3 Tier approach, Field Grade School uses a system of support designed to ensure ALL students are successful. Information on the Tier System is found below.

Tier 1: Core Classroom Instruction:

 The Classroom Teacher will us different strategies and materials with the core class for enrichment and reteaching. Core Class means the instruction that all students receive.

 Small Groups will also be used by the Classroom Teacher to target specific skills.

 Enrichment programs, such as IXL & iReady, will be used for 20-25 minutes per day specifically designed to target skills and needs individually.

 Through grades, observation, and screening, those students that may need additional support receive assistance through Tier 2

Tier 2: Intervention:

 The Classroom Teacher or the RTI Interventionalist uses supplemental strategies and materials in addition to the core classroom curriculum to help a student in areas of specific need in addition to the classroom instruction.

 May be held in the classroom or in a separate room.

 Small Groups with the Classroom Teacher or the RTI Team at least 2 times per week working on

targeted skills, identified by assessment, classwork, and teacher observation.

 Behavior RTI: Check In/Check out, structured breaks, school behavior plan, and short term goal.

Behavior RTI Tier 2 is short term

Tier 3: Intense Intervention:

 If a student is not showing improvement with Tier 2, Tier 3 intervention may be provided.

 Tier 3 is designed for students who have received Tier 3 Intervention, but continue to show difficulty in a certain skill or area of math or reading.

 One on One time is given to focus intensively on that particular skill.

 The RTI Team will use intensive strategies and materials that target area of need.

 Behavior RTI: a more intensive individualized support will be given

What Strategies are Used for Tier 2 & Tier 3?

 Research Based Strategies only

This means that the strategies being used are supported by research studies.

How do the teachers know if Tier 2 or Tier 3 is working?

 Progress Monitoring is very important in RTI

This means that we assess student progress weekly for Tier 2 and Tier 3.

 Progress Monitoring is used to show is the instructional support is working and to give the teacher and RTI Team information on how to adjust instruction to meet the student’s needs.

What happens is a student continues to struggle in Tier 3?

 Progress Monitoring will happen each week while a student is in Tier 3. This helps the RTI Team and the Teacher to collect data on progress. Progress Monitoring continues for 8 weeks after a student is put into Tier 3

 The RTI Team and the Classroom Teacher will then decide to continue the student in Tier 3 or to refer the student for additional evaluation.

What happens when a student makes progress in Tier 2 or Tier 3?

 When a student makes progress, the RTI team will determine if a student should continue in their

current tier, or if they can return to receiving previous tiers 1 or 2.
