Picture of Mr. Mays

Field Grade School Board of Education, administration, and staff would like to welcome back Mr. Rolland Mays as one of our music educators.  Mr. Mays will be teaching our strings program here at Field School two days per week. 16 years ago, Mr. Mays began volunteering here at Field School helping then director, Shelli Pierce, with the strings program.  During that time, he also volunteered to help those students prepare for contest pieces and exposed them to playing in public at nursing homes and concerts in the community.  Now, Mr. Mays, will be here as a staff member, teaching strings, once again, to our students.

Mr. Mays has taught at MVTHS since 1989.  Many Field students have gone on from Field to play under the direction of Mr. Mays while in high school.  Mr. Mays performed with the Paducah Symphony for 38 years, under the direction of the Maestros. Mr. Mays states that he became a better student of music because of that experience. He says it was like attending a workshop every rehearsal and performance.  Mr. Mays is looking forward to being back at Field School on Tuesdays and Thursdays teaching strings and would like to thank the Board of Education and administration for this opportunity to be back at Field Grade School.

Mr. Mays will be at Meet the Teacher on Thursday night from 6:00-7:00 to measure students for instruments so please stop by and see him if interested in joining the strings program.
